Under fire from various quarters for one controversy after another over the past year, Facebook is reportedly looking to ban false information about voting requirements in the run up to the US mid-term election next month.
The social media company will also apparently fact-check fake reports of violence or long lines at polling stations so as to prevent voters from being intimidated about casting their ballots.
According to Reuters, the new policy was confirmed by Facebook’s cybersecurity policy chief, Nathaniel Gleicher and other company executives.
The news agency also claims that Facebook is seriously considering a blanket ban on posts linking to hacked material so as to prevent a repeat of the 2016 scenario when Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign was hacked - allegedly by Russian agencies - and critical info disseminated openly on social media.
